Detailed Overview

This model is the mid-range series in the line new 2015 line of elliptical cross-trainers by LifeFitness. In this series, which also features the entry-level E1 and top-model E5, the trainers are equipped with the option for two consoles: the Go Console or the Track + Console.

The Track + Console option retails for $3,399 and the Go Console retails for $2,999. The Go Console is the basic console, featuring 13 built-in workout programs, wireless heart rate monitoring capabilities (and dual-grip sensors), two user profiles and the HeartSync™ program. The Track + console takes it one step further offering audio capabilities, a docking station that is compatible with both Apple and Android devices, and access to LF Connect. This console allow works with 3rd party apps. Both consoles feature a 4×6 inch LCD display with blue background and white characters, but the screens are divided differently and have a few different options when it comes to the controls. Both consoles also feature the Energy Saving button, and the Go Console is self-powered.

This trainer is built with a fixed 20 inch stride and can withstand up to 400 pounds. Users can choose from 20 levels of resistance and there are sensors in both of the moving handlebars for quick resistance changes. On the stationary handlebars is the Coach Zone program panel which features targeted workouts that focus on specific muscle groups for easier muscle toning and training. Built with WhisperStride™ Technology, the E3 is incredibly quiet and smooth when in operation, and the free floating design allows users to go forward and backward on this model, with no clicking or friction from a lot of moving parts.

LifeFitness offers warranty coverage of 5 years on electrical and mechanical parts, 1 year on labor, and the frame is covered for life.

The Bottom Line

The E3 is new for 2015. This year, some features were removed that make this model earn a slightly lower rating. This includes the omission of any adjustable features. With this price tag, we would expect some additional customizable options. If you go with the Go Console, you sacrifice entertainment and advanced workout tracking options, but you also save $1,000, so unless you really, really need a docking station and access to fitness apps, we suggest going with the E3 with the Go Console.
