Horizon Fitness Elliptical Machine Reviews

Horizon Fitness manufactures and distributes budget-friendly workout equipment, machines and accessories designed for home use. Their products include treadmills, ellipticals, exercise bikes and rowers. The brand is part of Taiwan based Johnson Health Tech (JHT), a leader in both commercial and in-home fitness equipment.

Horizon is known for offering durable and innovative trainers at reasonable prices. Highlights include their SixStar Certified frames that maintain ideal body positioning, and ECB magnetic brake resistance systems that guarantee a balanced and smooth ride. While all of the 2020 machines have built-in speakers and tablet racks, the more high-end models also offer Passport and ViaFit connectivity for interactive training.

Ready to check out the best Horizon Fitness ellipticals for 2020? Below we’ve summarized Horizon’s 4 main ellipticals for 2020 to help streamline your shopping.

Types of Horizon Ellipticals

The EX-59:

Comfortable and affordable, Horizon’s current entry-level elliptical (the EX-59) is a durable and accessible trainer. It doesn’t boast too many features, but for an affordable $599 web price it’s hard to complain. As well as a SixStar non-folding frame, it comes with a standard 4.5″ yellow-green LCD display with 10 workout programs, 10 levels of magnetic resistance and an 18” stride.

The 7.0 AE:

Another durable and reasonably priced exercise machine, the Horizon 7.0 AE elliptical boasts a 20” stride, 20 levels of incline and 20 levels of magnetic resistance. As well as a SixStar non-folding frame, it comes with a 16-digit alphanumeric LED display and a 7″ LCD screen.

Evolve Series:

This series features Horizon’s SixStar folding frame design, which is ideal for smaller spaces. The Evolve 3 and Evolve 5 feature 20 levels of electronically adjustable resistance and 20” strides. Like to keep on top of your workout stats and easily change between programs? The Evolve 3 offers a 5.5″ yellow-green LCD display for this; the Evolve 5 has a 6.25″ blue backlit LCD display. Each machine has over 30 workout programs built in: an impressive number for the price point. Both models are also compatible with Passport media player for you to enjoy interactive workouts, and ViaFit so you can accurately track your workout stats.

Brand Highlights

  • Frame: Built with sturdy and reliable SixStar Certified frames (even in the folding frame Evolve Series).
  • Cost: Reasonable prices with quality construction.
  • Options: Each trainer varies when it comes to workout programs, resistance levels, and console design so it’s easy to find a machine that fits your workout needs.
  • ViaFit: Some models offer ViaFit connectivity which makes setting and monitoring goals absolutely hassle free. Wireless connectivity allows trainers to connect to their favorite device and even share workout data between apps.
  • Warranty: All these models offer lifetime coverage on the frame.
  • Passport: Some Horizon ellipticals are Passport ready, which means you can use them to train interactively using a Passport media player. Using a Passport Player with Virtual Active (which you can purchase separately) transforms your exercise routine, allowing you to walk, run and work out in different virtual locations around the globe. Your Passport-ready machine’s incline or resistance will sync with the location’s rising and falling terrain, bringing your workout to life.

Brand Lowlights

  • Front Drive Design: Front drive design can be uncomfortable for some users and offers a less “natural” feel.
  • Storage: Only some of the models offer a foldable design for easy storage.
  • Console: None of these models offer a touchscreen display.

Bottom Line

Horizon Fitness offers a variety of ellipticals that range from very basic, no-fuss trainers, all the way up to more elite options that support an array of entertainment features. Regardless of which option you choose, all Horizon machines boast a reasonable price.

Horizon Fitness trainers are known for their durable frame, quiet incline and brakes system, and great overall value. These elliptical machines are ideal for anyone looking for reliable workout equipment that’s kind to your joints and your wallet.

Hi Vicky, we are sorry to hear that you are not completely satisfied with the Horizon. Keep in mind not all machines are the same so calories may be different depending. A heart rate monitor will give you a better judge of how hard you are actually working when using the machine.

Really? I was just looking at a used one. I'm going to try it out before I decide. Why can it not be serviced by the owner?
